Life of Mari

I'm Marianne; 21 years old, married and expecting a baby this summer! I lived in Korea for a few years to study korean, and that's where I met my husband. I've written a lot about my life living in Korea, but now that I'm back in Norway my blog will mostly be about this new chapter in my life!

Hello Korea

After a flight that seemed like it lasted forever, I arrived in Korea around 11am yesterday. I was dead tired since I didn’t sleep at all on the plane, but other than that I was just feeling super excited about being back again. After getting off the plane, I went to get my suitcase, and then tried finding the bus I was told to take from the airport to yijing’s house. I got on the right bus and everything, I even knew where to get off - but somehow I forgot to press the “stop” button haha.. I was sitting there all ready to get off the bus, but had to get off on the next stop since I didn’t push the stop button - so typical of me. Yijing and her boyfriend were waiting for me on the busstop where I was supposed to get off, and I didn’t know how to contact her to let her know I got off on the wrong stop.. because my korean phone-contract has been on hold all summer (meaning it doesn’t work yet), so I couldn’t use my phone. In the end, I managed to find a wifi connection from a random coffee-shop, and let her know through Kakaotalk on my Ipod touch haha. The two of them showed up shortly after with take-out coffee from one of my favorite coffee-shops, and we all took a taxi to their place.

At first we rested a bit, before going out to eat lunch (so nice to eat korean food again!!). When we got back home, we were all really sleepy (at that point I hadn’t slept for around 35 hours or so, plus I hardly slept the night before leaving Norway), so we took a good 2 hour-long nap. I probably shouldn’t have done that though, as it lead to me having trouble sleeping in the night later on.. Yijing and I went out for a walk at 3am in the morning, since we both had trouble falling asleep haha.

Today, the three of us went shopping in Daehangro and Myeongdong. I bought a pair of shoes, some school supplies (notebooks and pens), stockings, and some makeup and a moisturizer. Yijing had a class later in the day, so I went out by myself to look for some Gosiwons that I had found online on beforehand. I only found one of the four that I was planning on going to - and there wasn’t even anyone in reception that I could talk to.. I swear I followed the directions for the Gosiwons really well, and yet I couldn’t find any of the three others - what’s the point of hiding them so well that it’s impossible to find them? they should at least put up some signs or something.. I’m trying again tomorrow, when Yijing’s boyfriend will help me. Hopefully I’m just really bad at following directions (maybe we’ll find it straight away when someone else leads the way??), cause I kinda need to find a place where I can live soon..!

The weather in Korea is really quite hot. I’ve been wearing shorts, short-sleeved shirts, we have to have the aircondition on pretty much all the time - and yet it’s still a little too hot. I’m not complaining though, this is way better than the bad weather in my hometown :P
