Life of Mari

I'm Marianne; 21 years old, married and expecting a baby this summer! I lived in Korea for a few years to study korean, and that's where I met my husband. I've written a lot about my life living in Korea, but now that I'm back in Norway my blog will mostly be about this new chapter in my life!

the past few days

It got quite a lot colder the past few days. Not that it’s actually cold - it’s still pretty warm outside, just not super hot as it was my first few days in Korea. I moved to my new place on Saturday with some help from Yijing and her boyfriend - they’re so nice to me really.. I bought them dinner that day in return haha. My new place is quite cozy, I like it a lot here. My room is a little small but otherwise really nice, and the location is great. I’ve always liked Edae a lot, and even while living in the dormitory at school I still went to Edae every other day.. Now I’m living pretty much in the center of Edae, so it’s great, really. I took pictures of my room the other day, but somehow my camera has stopped working, so I cant transfer the pictures to my computer. I need to find a repair-shop nearby..

Today is Thursday, and I’ve only been here for a bit over a week, even though it feels like much longer. On Sunday Yijing and I went shopping while her boyfriend was getting a haircut, and then we all ate dinner together afterwards. On Monday Yijing and I met around noon, and walked to school to buy our books - mine’s for level 4 and her’s for level 5. We were waiting for the Ahjusshi in the bookshop for a long time as he seemed to have gone somewhere leaving the door open and all.. we decided to go eat lunch first and then come back half an hour later. We ate lunch at a place nearby where we used to go quite often after class, and one of the women working there recognized me haha. The Ahjusshi was in his shop when we got back, and the three of us had a long and interesting conversation in korean - about everything from class, vacations and the o-zone layer. Later in the day I went to Yijing’s place to help her boyfriend with an english school-assignment. He cooked dinner for the three of us - yummy chinese food. I went home just before midnight.

On Tuesday Baiwei came to Edae (he lives quite far from here, almost outside Seoul), and it was so nice to see him again. He had been back in China for a few days, and had bought a bracelet, a cute pouch and a lucky charm thingy for me. We ate lunch together while catching up, and then went to our favorite karaoke place. It’s always so fun to sing karaoke with him! After that, we just walked around while drinking bubble milk tea, before deciding to eat some muffins at a coffeeshop nearby. As we were eating, he taught me some chinese - so I now know how to introduce myself in chinese :D

Yesterday I took the subway to his place, it takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes or so. It’s almost the countryside where he lives - so it’s really different from Seoul. He came to meet me in the subway station, we bought some snacks and then went to his place. First we watched a scary korean movie, and then some kind of hollywood movie, both movies were quite good. After that we went outside to a playground close to his place, and had fun playing games and exercising a bit. By the time we got back, his parents had come back from work, and his mom was preparing dinner. We watched some TV while waiting, and then all of us had dinner together (yummy homemade chinese food again!!). It was getting late, and around 8:30 he took me back to the subway on his bike. I had such a nice time.

Today I had lunch with Yijing and her boyfriend again, then went to a coffeeshop where I had my first warm coffee since coming back to Korea (up until now I only ordered cold and refreshing ones cause the weather’s been too freaking hot), and I’m planning to get some studying done soon. I need to memorize korean words from level 3, cause it seems like I’ve forgotten quite a lot while I was back in Norway haha.

Yijing busy playing games on her phone in the coffeeshop~
